Behind the photo - The Photo Station

The photo station is one of the coolest things we offer. I could talk all day about some of the things that have happened in and around the photo booth. Photo booth's are definitely a new trend and technically ours is not a booth at all. It's more of a photo station of sorts. You can fit large numbers of people into the photos and you can take as many as you'd like. The photos are remote controlled by the guests as they have a great time and instantly displayed on a TV as they shoot away. Then all of the photos are delivered to the bride and groom on a CD. You can find more information on our photo booths here, here, and here.

This photo is from Kelly and Brian's wedding last year on the Iowa State Campus. You can see the guest are enjoying themselves at the photo booth while this sign is the only security around. They were free to enjoy and express themselves accordingly.

Cassy and Jason

On Saturday, April 2nd, Ashley and I photographed Cassy and Jason's wedding in Ida Grove, IA. Ida Grove is known as Castle Town. Everything in the city is castle themed. From the first businesses along the main highway to the Ida Grove Courier and even the Blimpie's, it used to be a Blimpie's anyway. Not only that but a house along the main highway had a full size pirate ship in a lagoon surrounding the home....it's on my list of things I'd like to have one day.

The weather was fantastic for an early April wedding and could turn out to be the nicest day we've had thus far. The downside to early April is that nothing has really bloomed yet so it still looks like fall in most places. All you have to do is be a little creative and there are places everywhere to take photos. We spent the majority of the day with Cassy, Jason, friends, and family. Everyone was amazing to work with and things went as smooth as they can.

We did encounter some craziness at the church. A new church is being built directly behind the current church. The current church has exactly 1 three pronged outlet. Which at first wasn't working. All of our studio lighting is three pronged. Luckily a recent purchase of a Vagabond Mini Lithium allowed us portable power when the church wasn't providing any. It was a nice save the day moment. (even though we had a plan b, c, and d.)

We shot at local Moorehead and Cobb park's in Ida Grove as well as near some downtown structures that provided a great background. The combination of the backdrops and Cassy and Jason's photo-oriented attitude made for some great photos. You can find all of our favorites below!

Jessica

Sticking with our theme of babies, here is a recent maternity session with Jessica. Ashley shot this one in the sculpture garden area. It is easy to get both an urban feel as well as park look in that area. We will see what some of the new developments do to this as most Des Moines photographers lost a great spot near the Science Center due to reconstruction of a storage building and the destruction of an older building. All in the name of progress. Can't argue with that. Check out a few favorites below.

Ethan

"A two-year old is kind of like having a blender, but you don't have a top for it." - Jerry Seinfeld

Babies are a common theme with us these days. Several of our past newborn package babies are expecting new siblings this year. And as many of you know Ashley and I are expecting ourselves. It is definitely baby days around here. Ashley and I have been photographing Ethan for sometime now and he is getting bigger all the time. While he is not two yet, I am sure his mom and dad would agree with Jerry, it looks like his time as the baby is up. Check out some of Ethan's photos as well as maternity photos for the new baby below.

Camdyn

Last month Ashley took photos of 3-month old Camdyn. We've known Tricia and Brian for sometime now and took photos of their first son Hayden over his first year. I say it all the time, but they grow fast. It is unreal how quickly they change. I never believed people when they said that your children grow fast, probably because I was still in school and couldn't get done fast enough. But now that I have kids I completely understand. Take tons of photos even if it is just with your cell phone camera. You will want to be able to look back and remember because the time flies.

Weston

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing. ~Phyllis Diller

Kids grow up incredibly fast. We have the pleasure of getting to know many people from around Central Iowa and beyond and watching them and their children grow. Our newborn packages which include several shoots over the course of the first year of a child's life have provided us unique opportunities to really get to know their families. Ashley and I have gained insight and wisdom from all of them and hopefully shared some of ours as well. Our family is growing at the same time that their's is. We can share similar life experiences and the people we photographer become a part of our family. Our kids recognize the people in the photos and sometimes know them by name.

Weston is growing fast as well. You can look back over his photo shoots and see him change. Weston's family is also growing. He will have another little sibling here soon. Ashley took these photos in March. A few of our favorites are below.
