Dylan

Another late blog entry, this one from early May. These photos of Dylan were taken at Water Works Park in Des Moines which is definitely one of the prime spots for photographers in the area. Between Water Works Park and the Rose Garden it's tough not to bump into 2 or 3 other photographers at any given time.

Neveah and Abigail

This one if from way back in April. We say it all the time, but watching kids grown from newborns to toddlers is amazing. Even if only through a few photos every couple months. The changes are amazing.

Sarah and Jacob

Over Memorial Day weekend we photographed Sarah and Jacob's wedding in Des Moines. It was just the first of several instances this year where we thought the weather may be bad, but turned out just fine. The rain will stop, the ground will dry, and photos will be taken. These two were great to work with. Their laid back attitude meshed perfectly with our easy going style. No body wants someone over bearing and aggressive on their wedding day, that only creates stress and unnecessary headaches. Keep stress free.

We started with photos at the state capitol. It is such a versatile location because of the view of the city, the steps, the capitol it self, the well manicured grounds, and the general open space. The decision to take that area and get rid of the old parking lot is one of the best the city has made. The clouds covered the sky from east to west and north to south providing a smooth even lit background and diffused soft light across the earth. It was exactly as we like.

We finished shooting a few photos at their reception location, Toad Valley Golf Course, which as usual we can not recommend enough. Allison and her entire crew are great to work with! Sarah, Jacob, family, and friends were all great to work with. We had a great time. Congratulations to Sarah and Jacob!

Cole

Little Cole is not so little any more. Still can't believe how much babies grow in 12 months. There is a reason to take so many photos during that first year of life. The changes happen so fast and before you know it they are one year old. It is an amazing process.

Alexander - I Love Des Moines Contest

A while back we ran our I Love Des Moines Contest. We had a photo with 10 letters from around the Des Moines area spelling out Nuzum Photo. Meet our winner....Mellissa and Andy...and Alexander technically. These are Alexander's one year photos. The were shot in the area of the sculpture garden and Locust, a favorite spot of ours recently. The cake smashing is a fun photo and luckily this one was done outside which makes it all that much better. Check out some of our favorites below...

Presley and Brooklyn

Just photos this time...still trying to dig out of this blog pile. Over 20 blog posts behind...completely unlike us.

Natasha and Scott

I photographed Natasha and Scott's engagement photos a little while back. Luckily the weather has been fairly mild and we were able to get in a lot of shots downtown. These two were great and although Scott claimed to not be a very good "dipper", he did just fine. And the ones that were not so great, were pretty funny. The experience of having engagement photos taken is 90% of the fun. The great photos afterwards are just a bonus.

Ashley and Sean

This past weekend I photographed Ashley and Sean's engagement photos in downtown Des Moines. We shot around the sculpture garden and Meredith's downtown campus. The meredith campus was kind of a new spot for me, but I like shooting in new places. Typically if I shoot in the area I stay on the east side, but this Sunday I ventured over to the west side for some shots. We hit the alley south of Locust and spent a few minutes at Grey's Lake. They are Hawkeye fans...need I say any more?

Jaidey and Rohan

Jaidey and Rohan are a blast to take photos of. Each for different reasons. Jaidey is as photogenic as they come. Rohan is as stubborn as they get. I enjoy both for different reasons. Jaidey is easy to photograph and really enjoys the shoot. Makes taking the photos fun and they turn out great. Rohan being stubborn makes me work a little harder and the smiles I do get end up being pretty natural. Check out a few of our favorites from a recent shoot.

More Nuzum Boys

My brother Mike has three sons, I have three sons, my dad had three sons and now our cousin Aaron has 3 sons. No daughters in the bunch. Aaron and Amanda recently welcomed twin boys, Calvin and Camden. Ashley shot this photos back in April i think, yes the blog is THAT far behind. Are any Nuzum girls in the future? At least we know the family name is safe.

Heather and Kevin - Photo Station

You may have seen a sampling of Heather and Kevin's wedding photos in our last blog ... well we now have many more photos from their photo station to share. Here are the highlights. One thing you will notice is ... people still look at the TV while they are having their photo taken. Need to have a big arrow pointing up to the camera. We will get it there.

Heather and Kevin

We had the honor of shooting Heather and Kevin's Toad Valley wedding. Toad Valley Golf Course is probably our favorite place to shoot weddings and/or receptions. If you are looking for a spot for your wedding and/or reception contact Allison today. The staff is amazing and they let us get to some great locations for photos. Including some tough terrain, which I'll explain.

The day started out a bit wet with rain covering the state. However, the rain cleared and everything dried up just in time for the outdoor ceremony and outdoor photos. For the photographers out there we shoot the formal photos outside using 2 AlienBee 800's with a VegaBond mini-lithium to power them. Only to find out that a power outlet was about 20 feet away. Close enough for our 50 foot extension cord to reach. It was pretty windy so we used three 15lb sand bags on each light stand.

Allison of Toad Valley told us we could take a few golf carts and head back into some of the back areas of the golf courses land. There were trees, tall grass, paths, and open space. We were able to shoot quite a bit in this area and then decided to head a little further. I took off leading the way only to get slowed by the mud created by the morning rain. The bride and groom were in tow and I was throwing mud up like a monster truck. Luckily I DID NOT hit the bride, threw it in reverse and headed back the way from which I came. A good story to tell now, not so much when I thought I was covering the bride in mud in ways no cartoon has ever seen.

Rain on your wedding is suppose to be good luck but it is easy to see that Heather and Kevin won't need it. They are truly happy and we could not be happier to have been a part of their big day. Congratulations Heather and Kevin!
